When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Must Be Gremlins!

Encouraging you to prevent your own Gremlins bulb blooper on Near a River.

Hopefully you will never have a bulb blooper experience!

If you are familiar with Steven Spielberg’s 1984  Christmas movie Gremlins, you will understand this post.  In this movie, a kind waitress walked a man who had been drinking home from a bar instead of allowing him to drive home while he spoke of Gremlins causing his car not to start.  Then the Gremlins appeared and wrecked the town. Watch the clip above and you will get an idea of what I am talking about.

Have you ever thought that Gremlins might be taking over your car?  It is Christmas time so yesterday I was beginning to think that Gremlins were inhabiting my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. Here are the details of this strange event.

  • My car only has 62,000 miles and ran very well until Sunday, My husband heard a noise and told me to take it to the shop, so Monday I left it there. Tuesday morning at 10:30 the shop called and asked me to pick it up.
  • When I picked it up, the shop had fixed a wheel bearing problem but the tail light that needed a new bulb had not been taken care of. A young mechanic dealt with this issue.  Immediately after he changed the bulb, he noticed the transmission was not working properly.  He said I would have to use a screw driver to move the gear shift stick from park to drive until the shop could troubleshoot this issue next Wednesday.
  • Then I went to Walmart to shop.  There I could not even put the car into park to be able to retrieve the key and go into the store.  Since my husband was out of town, I called both mechanics I knew and had to leave messages for both. Frustrated, I returned to the mechanic who had just fixed it.
  • Shop owner Brad  went outside in the rain and checked out my car himself.  Five minutes later, he returned to the waiting area.  Drenched and smiling, he announced that the problem was the shop’s fault and very simple. My gear shifter’s fuse had come lose when the tail light was fixed.

Always curious about everything, I had watched the mechanic who had changed the tail light and the owner who fixed the fuse problem.  The fuse was nowhere near the tail light, but when the fuse was replaced, the gear shifter worked again.

I hope that the Gremlins leave my car alone in the future!

The moral of this story is simple:   If anyone changes your taillights for you, ask him to double check your fuses after he finishes replacing the tail lights.  A Gremlin/bulb blooper experience is very frustrating and you do not want to have one!

Soar like an eagle over life’s storms.  Prevent Gremlin issues with your car instead of having to deal with them.
